Sport Update w/ending 28th November

It was a busy start to the competitive season for Senior Basketball with two friendly matches during the week to give everyone some long overdue match experience. On Monday the first friendly was against Aberdeen Grammar with the RGC boys really enjoying the experience. They were up against strong opponents and coach Mr McCormick thought the team did really well to be so competitive. RGC led most of the way but in the end it was a win for Grammar. On Thursday the boys made the short trip to Cults Academy where, after a slow start, they got within 4 points in the 4th quarter. Cults however pulled away to win the match.

S3A Netball had a great win against Aberdeen Grammar School on Wednesday in the 1st round of their Scottish Cup competition. The girls were extremely nervous at the start of the match as two of the Grammar girls play District netball and many of them play for a local club. However we soon settled into the RGC way and demonstrated excellent passing. Both attack and defence worked hard and the shooters were on fire!

Girls Hockey

The 1st XI welcomed Galashiels Academy to Countesswells on Wednesday for their Scottish Cup match, postponed from the previous week. This proved to be a great game between the two teams who put everything into their performance. RGC won the match, scoring some excellent goals.

Storm Arwen

Sadly due to the aftermath of Storm Arwen, all rugby and hockey was cancelled on Saturday morning along with the Senior Ski Race team’s planned trip to the British School Ski Racing Championships in Llandudno, Wales.

Team of the Week

This week's winners are the S3 Netball team. They played their first competitive fixture in nearly two years against Aberdeen Grammar on Wednesday after school. Up against strong opposition, RGC thought very carefully about their passing options and positioning on the court. All 9 girls selected for this Scottish Cup fixture took to the court and did a great job and it ended in a win for RGC

Sporting Achievements out with RGC

Congratulations to brothers Magnus G (S3) & Rurik G (S2) who have been selected for the U19 GB Underwater Hockey Development Squad. The boys are training and working towards the World Championships in 2024. Good luck and well done on this great achievement.
