Netball
Our P2-7 Netball Festival last Monday was a celebration of the hard work and great progress our young players have made throughout this term. We warmly welcomed all of our parents to watch each year group playing in their individual festivals across our 6 outdoor Netball courts. One parent described the event as a ‘fantastic spectacle of Netball!’ The beaming smiles of our P2-7 players when receiving their personalised certificates and RGC Netball Superstar stickers confirmed that all of our players were very proud of the success and progress they have made. The future of RGC Junior Netball looks very bright. Thank you to all of our wonderful coaching staff that have come together to provide such great playing experiences for our pupils each week.
Golf
The final of the RGC Match Play Championship took place at a sultry Deeside Golf Club last Friday. Ross W in S2 took a commanding lead and with 5 holes to play he was 4 up and looked in total control of his game. From somewhere, Finlay B in S6 required a Cinderella story and produced some magic to tie the match at the last. If only we had a crowd to watch this classic encounter! What a match, and with both players having opportunities to win, it was Finlay who kept his cool to seal the victory at the 21st. Ross must be commended for his contribution to this match. Well done to Finlay who now joins his Dad and older brother on the trophy.
Swimming
Our P3-P7 pupils had great fun in the pool recently at their Junior School House Swimming Gala. Working in their Houses and year groups, the children were set a series of fun swimming games, challenges and relays from dressing up races to building towers, and balancing cups to races on the big mats. The cheering from pupils always raises the roof at this event and it’s great to see everyone getting behind the swimmers for their House!
P1-4 Multi Sport
Our P1-4s out on the pitch on Saturday morning where Tennis was again the focus of their session. The children have thoroughly enjoyed their Saturday sport this term and it has been fantastic to see their progression.
Ski Racing
Congratulations to our Ski Racing teams who have triumphed again at the British Schools Indoor Open Ski Championships by retaining their titles at the event in Manchester on Monday this week. Our gold medal winning Male team was made up of S3 pupils Jamie R and Blair M along with S6 pupils Finlay C and Grant M. Our gold medal winning Mixed team comprised S1 pupils Carla F, Thomas F and James F along with P7 pupil Maxwell D.
There were individual podium places too for Blair M who was 2nd U16 and 2nd overall, Thomas F who was 3rd U14, Maxwell D 4th U14, Carla 3rd U14 and Finlay 4th U19.
Sports Reviews
As this busy term comes to a close, we are taking time to reflect on our pupils’ participation and successes from a wonderful year of Sport at our annual Sports Reviews. S1s had their celebration of Sport on Tuesday morning and on the second last day of term it will be the turn of S2-3 and S4-6 to look back on a fantastic year.
Well done to all our pupils for making this another excellent year for Sport at RGC. Whether they have tried a sport for the first time or continued on their journey in their chosen sport, we hope they have enjoyed the year and look forward to seeing everyone back in August. We send our best wishes to the S6s and any other leavers and we hope you continue to enjoy your sport wherever the next chapter takes you.
Farewell and Thank You to Jude Thorpe
We would like to say a huge thank you to Jude Thorpe who has been Chair of the Robert Gordon’s College Parents’ Association (RGCPA) over the last three years. A large part of Jude’s role involves coordinating the parent and Duke of Edinburgh volunteers on a Saturday morning at Countesswells and being there herself each week to make sure refreshments are available for parents and pupils. We are grateful for everything that Jude has done to help support Sport at Countesswells and we look forward to working with her successors, Dr Elisabeth Easton and Anne-Sophie Cyteval from next term.
Team of the Week
This week’s TOTW is a Cricket affair with both the S1-3 Week of Cricket side who won their recent tournament in Perth and the U15 Boys side who reached the Cricket Scotland Scottish Schools Cup national final, losing out to George Watson’s College, having beaten Stewart’s Melville College in the semi finals.
Sporting Achievements Out With School
Congratulations to the following pupils on their recent successes:
